introduction. hi :)
hello!!
i wanted to document my process of learning to code :) it's something i've always been interested in, but never got to, because i felt like it would take too much time to become good. well, the time will pass anyways, i need a project to stay sane. i have adhd, so it's somewhat of a developing hyperfixation / special interest for me.
i was using sololearn to learn, before i got paywalled :/ -- now i'm using freecodecamp and will probably also use codeacademy. on freecodecamp, i'm doing the certified full stack developer program which will (from my understanding) teach me to code front-end / client side as well back-end. i knew some HTML to begin with, but so far i've finished the basics of HTML mini-course and am on to structural HTML. After the full HTML topic, the course teaches me CSS, Java, Back-End Javascript and Python.
LONG STORY SHORT!! let's be friends, because i love doing this. also i need help. and advice. so much of it. m

Aquarium update
(No pictures this time My tank looks fucking horrendous)
I just left to California and I had my brother watch and feed accordingly.
I also had him add seed shrimp to the tank since I bought some and it just so happened to come when I wasn't there.
I come back and now my tank is infested with hydras (basically freshwater sea anemones)
I wasn't thinking of adding any fish to the tank yet until my shrimps start breeding.
(except for my Cory's)
But I guess I'm going to have to get some guppies to take care of the problem.
On another note I just got pea puffers as well, They came in faster than I thought and I'm very grateful because I'm beginning to have a little snail problem.
I don't really mind "pest" snails I just didn't know how quickly they bred until now I see literally every surface of a Java for an I own is covered in snail eggs. (Umm... Oopsie)
My pee puffers are doing great. However, my otocinclus likes to chase the poor puffers around which I find a little strange since Otociclus are herbivores

Christian Ford: What You Need To Know

Talkative, passionate, and strong-willed, Christian Ford is either the life of the party or the person that turns on the lights…depending on the day. In actuality, he’s a thinker, and every action means something; still, something about him remains spontaneous, as if he’s playing life by ear just as much as he’s absorbed in a world of decision. What will he do next? Read on to get some idea.
Basics
Name: Christian Victor Ford
Age: 27 (born May 9, 1997)
Gender and Pronouns: cisgender male, he/him/his
Hometown: Seattle, Washington
Occupation: published novelist (two books in a series out, with a third on its way)
Residence: a surprisingly tidy condo on Coral Coast
Brief Biography
Christian was born to two seemingly loving parents in a seemingly perfect place. If that were the case, though, why did he feel so out of step? Seattle was beautiful, at times; but Christian longed for different vistas, a place where he could “imagine”, as he put it. “Imagining” meant dreaming of different universes, different people. It meant the beginnings of what would become his occupation: writing novels.
Christian’s father Michael did not “imagine”. He charmed—neighbors, public figures, extended family (on his mother’s side). And he seemed to change in different lights—in one situation, a leader, then all at once, an avid supporter. In fact, he didn’t seem to have a personality at all. Christian suspected that his father was less than genuine when they were eating Christmas dinner one year and his father said, “I hate this.” The remark was worded so succinctly (unlike him), so callously (what Christian was forced to acknowledge was really him) that Christian could no longer deny what had been in front of him the whole time. His “businessman” of a father really dealt in promises—promises that were paper-thin.
When Christian left for college, flying halfway across the country to Chicago, he implied that he would return home. This was something that his mother, who he loved (and loves) deeply, could have discerned was false. His dad bought it, however. The college graduate that emerged from U Chicago and moved to Windsor Bay made Michael Ford absolutely livid. But that was life! If Christian’s father wanted to enter the town that his predecessors had founded, taking on the dark legacy of the Fords, he could do so. But Mr. Ford would never follow his son anywhere, least of all to a destination of Christian’s own decision. And Mr. Ford had no idea that Christian’s motivations for choosing Windsor Bay were truly Christian’s own. He liked the idea of continuing something (though he’d learn the full extent of what he’d be “continuing” later, once he’d settled into town). And he liked small towns. This would make the move well worth it.
Now Christian writes to his heart’s content, settled on the beach the way he likes. It’s not all fun and games. He’s restless; and he hates the very recent loneliness his lifestyle has granted him (via the popular duology he wrote that seemingly must be “lived up to” with a showstopper of a third novel. It’s driving him absolutely insane). But Christian will likely find that life, despite its reliability at times, doesn’t play by rules and doesn’t do what it “did before”. He’ll learn something; the only question, and one he asks himself on these new, lonely nights with his thoughts as company, is what can be taught to someone with such anger.
His secret, well-kept, is that he is deeply angry. And the kicker? It’s not directed at anything at all. That’s pretty dangerous.
Wanted Connections
Testing the Waters (1/2)—While Christian doesn’t do casual hookups anymore, he does date. (Maybe too enthusiastically… He really likes romance.) If your character (identifying as female) wants to “test the waters” with Christian, going anywhere from Java Junction to Christian’s own place to see if they have a spark, this connection is for you. And you can opt for the meet-cute, or the date itself, or even something more unique. This connection is to learn if there is a connection…or to ease into one.
Closer Than Brothers (0/2)—Christian already has a brother (who he honestly doesn’t like), but if your male character wants a close friend—someone who is loyal and dedicated to those he trusts—then this connection may be for you. Christian loves all kinds of company, but he cherishes those most who are open and real with him. Maybe that’s your character?
Taken Connections
Exes (1/1)—Christian has an ex in town, one that he fell in love with and ended things amicably with (it was a mutual agreement). But something about her still gets to him late at night… If your character wants an ex who is somewhat moody, extremely passionate, and loves both mixed signals and big gestures, this connection is for you.

Any tips on learning python? I already know Java, C++, and JavaScript.
Hiya! 💗
Since you already know those other languages, Python will be literally a piece of cake. It'll be easy for you, in my opinion.
Tips? I would say:
Start with the Basics: Begin by understanding the fundamental syntax and concepts of Python. After learning those, you can basically apply the languages you know logic into Python code and you'll be done. You can use online tutorials on YouTube or free online pdf books to get a good grasp of the basics.
Leverage Your Programming Experience:Like I mentioned Python shares similarities with many languages, so relate Python concepts to what you already know. For example, understand Python data types and structures in comparison to those in Java, C++, or JavaScript.
Projects and Practice:I sing this on my blog but practice is crucial. Start small projects or challenges to apply your Python knowledge. Depends what you want to build e.g. console apps, games, websites etc. Just build something small every so often!
Hope this helps! More tips I made: ask 1 | project ideas | random resources

speaking of the batavia /slams fist on the table/ before i get back to doing actually important rl things like filling out my adhd assessment forms i GOTTA TALK ABOUT THIS BABYLON 5 FIC IDEA THAT HAS BEEN EATING MY BRAIN
SO, backstory, i was reading batavia's graveyard which is about the 17th century VOC merchant ship that wrecked off the coast of australia on its way to java. most of the crew and passangers survived and made it on to a nearby arpichegelo. the uppermerchantman and skipper then left the survivors while they sailed off in a longboat to fetch help from java, leaving the junior merchantman Jeronimus cornelizs in charge. cornelizs, who had been planning a mutiny prior to the wreck, then proceeded to murder or maroon any of the crew and soldiers who might a oppose him and butcher many of the survivors. some of the survivors fought back and the rescue ship arrived right in the middle of their final battle. cornelizs was arrested and executed along with his fellow mutineers.
anYWAY, basically, since reading this i have been noodling with the idea of a similar kind of shipwreck/mutiny/battle between survivors set in the b5 universe and trying to figure out how it would all fit together and how to make it make sense and then i had the further idea of it being an AU where earth never sent their stupid exploratory mission into minbari space and so instead somehow this mutiny/wreck situation becomes their first contact. idk, i'm still thinking about. my other thought was engineering some reason for all these characters to be together on one ship during the shadow war. it's still just an idea gestating in my mind basically and im not planning to start writing it any time soon tbh since i have so many other fics to finish first, but it's there... marinating
also obvs i will be wedging neroon into is somehow. and marcus. and maybe branmer. franklin is DEF gonna be there because i think he would suffer splendidly in a situation like this. also i think gkar and na'toth and sheridan and delenn need to be there. somehow. poor lennier is gonna end up being the expy for that teenager who went wild with bloodthirst and was running around the islands screaming about how he had the devil in him and would kill 'beautifully' lmao
like look. if jms gets to write in the beginning and have all those characters inexplicably meet despite nEVER having mentioned it in the show i am allowed to force them all to endure a shipwreck/mutiny situation together. it's my RIGHT im not unhinged i am being CREATIVE

HOW TO SWITCH TO LINUX
So, we're going to go through this step by step.
Before we begin, let's keep a few things clear:
Linux is not Windows, it is its own system, with its own culture, history and way of doing things.
There are many "distributions", "distros" or "flavors" of Linux. What works for you may be different from what people recommend.
You'll want to read up on how to use the terminal; the basics an absolute beginner needs is short, but important. It's not hard to learn, just takes a bit of time and effort.
ADOBE DOES NOT WORK ON LINUX.
WINE is not a Windows Emulator, it should not be treated as such.
Proton is a compatibility tool built on WINE by Valve, which has its own compatibility database, called ProtonDB. It still isn't an emulator and can have quirks.
Not everything will work on Linux. Dead by Daylight actively blocks Linux players from joining a game, as an example. The Windows Edition of Minecraft is another. (But the Java Edition does!)
There are many FOSS alternatives to popular programs, but they may lack maturity and features compared to their commercial counterparts.
You might want to invest in an external drive. It'll keep your files safe and you'll be able to move all your files to a
Step 1: why do you want to switch? Are you concerned about privacy? Are you wanting to boycott Windows? Is 11 not an option for your hardware? Want to try something new? Be honest with yourself on what you want to do. Write down your hardware specs. You'll want to know what kind of processor, RAM, video card and memory you're working on.
Step 2: Make three lists: Programs you need for work, programs you use at home (that aren't games) and games you like to play. Check each of these for if they already have a Linux port. For games, you can check if it's Steamdeck compatible! For those where you can't find one or it's not clear, you can check for the program on WINE HQ and ProtonDB (for games.) Not all of them might be compatible!
There might be Linux-based alternatives for several things, but keep in mind that Adobe does NOT support Linux and does NOT work on WINE! Sea of Thieves and LibreOffice works, Dead by Daylight and Scrivener do not.
Step 3: Get a GOOD QUALITY USB drive stick! I recommend one that's at least 30 GB. That sounds like a lot, but operating systems these days are huge-but there's some fun stuff you can get. It's really important that you get a good quality one, not just a random stick off a reseller like Wish.
Step 4: Remember when I asked you why you were switching? Time to pick a Linux version. There is no "one, true Linux" version-the operating system is open, groups make their own versions and put it out into the world. If you're confused, check out Distrowatch. Read a list here. Download an option-if you have a few sticks around, try multiple ones.
Step 5: Plug in your USB and use either UNetbootin or Rufus to create your boot device. Rufus might be easier if you're not super computer savvy. When looking over the options, make sure there's some storage, set it to most of what's left. Take out your boot stick for now.
Step 6: Find out how to boot to your BIOS. Every computer has a BIOS. Check out your model of laptop/motherboard to figure out what it is. Arrange boot order so that your USB gets checked first.
Step 7: If you have an external drive, move all your personal stuff, game saves, etc to it or purchase cloud drive storage for it. Always back up your files, and with multiple methods.
Step 8: You aren't going to be installing Linux quite yet; instead, boot it up from USB. Note, it'll be a bit slow on USB 2.0, though a USB-3 device and slot should make matters easier. Test each version you're considering for a week. It is super important that you test! Sometimes problems crop up or you turn out to not like it!
Step 9: Once you find a distro you like and have tested, consider if you want to dual boot or completely wipe Windows. Some programs for work might require Windows or you might have a few games that ONLY work on Windows and that's perfectly fine! Just keep in mind, as of Windows 11, this option is not recommended. If you want to use dualboot, you want to keep Windows 10 and NOT update. There's great tutorials on how to make it happen, search engines should be able to point you to one.
Step 10: Fully install Linux and immediately update. Even the latest installers will not have the current security patches. Just let it update and install whatever programs you want to use.
Step 11: Enable compatibility tools in Steam if you're a gamer. File, options, compatibility. Also, check the Software Store in your OS for open source re-implementations for your favorite older games!
You're now a Penguin!

Preparation for the study
Hello guys!
Well, I've been doing a course of java in the past week or so, but I haven't been tracking and I want to keep a progress to be more sure I am in a good pace and will end it (kinda) faster.
So today I am going to pick a schedule and turn it into a habit, also I am going to organize how I will spend my time studying. I am learning Java (still on the very beginning heelp). So far, have made into 55 of 541 videos in the Java course, 77 hours of lessons and there's also practice and some challenges to do. I don't think I am able to get it done if I don't put my effort into being aware of my time, so my biggest flaw here is to keep focus and avoid procrastination at all my costs.
The course abt java has:
-Fundamentals of Java
-Programming oriented object
-Functional programming
-Mysql
-Mongodb
-Spring boot
-Javafx
-JPA
-Hibernate
And when I end this course I will continue with the ""sequel"", my point is to keep learning so I can get a job at the field and move on into being able to buy more books and keep this looping going. As the obsessive I am, I'm fully engaged in tech obviously, so my plans much depends on learning about it, and then how to make everything in my life about it too so... Yeah it will be fun, and a big stress probably. Hope I don't burn my head doing that.
Also, I bought last week a few other courses, cuz they were for such a good price I couldn't say no. Still haven't picked any of them to study, but, respectively they are:
-HTML and Css basics
-Terminal for beginners
-Gnu nano
-Shell script advanced
-Learn to compile
-VPS Server
-Create your own package manager
-Vagrant
-Slackware essentials
-Darkweb
Those are some topics I am interested in, even knowing a little about one here and there, will be a great challenge to advance my comprehension. I need to find time to put them into schedule. Wish me luck everybody. Maybe I am getting too overwhelmed to do everything I picked? Of course, but fuck it I can handle - just not at the same time obviously, sometime I will get there I just need to be patient with myself and keep consistency at check.
Gosh, was a long post huh? I will say later on my plan to get it all done! Until them, thank you for staying with me.

Hey sreegs, maybe this is a long-shot... but do you have any advice for someone trying to get into the tech industry (aside from don't - ive heard this one before) for someone relatively new to coding and stuff?
do some research on what you want to do and get started in a relevant language. i used codecademy but there's plenty of other places that offer courses. swift for iOS, java/kotlin for Android, js for web frontend, python, java, etc for other backend services.
you're gonna be learning the basics but start somewhere. there comes a point where you start to just "get" coding and then it becomes easier to learn other languages. while they all may have something unique about them, a lot is the same. stuff like control flow, objects, types, nullability, etc, they all deal with those things in some way. there's a big difference between compiled languages and interpreted languages, but that won't matter much to you at the beginning
if you hate coding after trying to learn it for a month or two you're gonna hate it forever

As a noteworthy achievement, this film stands out as the first IMAX production ever created within Southeast Asia. In 2024, it will become one of only five films worldwide to be made for IMAX. The film's aesthetic appeal is undeniable, boasting a lavish color palette and visually stunning cinematography.
Lele Laila's screenplay is a standalone tale that does not require viewers to have seen the previous film, "KKN in Dancer's Village." It harmonizes family legacy, modern characters encountering an idyllic community, clashing belief systems, and magical realism, while also incorporating traditional narrative structures such as a hero's journey. The screenplay is refreshing in its portrayal of a different and unique culture, making it accessible to international viewers. The story revolves around a matriarchal society where the male characters, with the exception of the shaman, are powerless against the mystical. The dancing in the story is notably sensual without being sexual, and the interactions between Mila, her cousin, and his friends exude an innocence reminiscent of characters from classic children's literature. The plot takes several twists and turns, which are gradually explained as the story unfolds. There are survivors, and the village remains, leaving open the possibility of a return to the "Dancing Village."
The special effects were remarkably simple yet effective, reminiscent of the classic “smoke and mirrors”movie magic. One notable scene is set in a bathhouse where Badarawuhi terrorizes Mila, a terrifying atmosphere created with minimal effects. The costumes ranged from basic to vibrant and intricate, adding to the film’s overall aesthetic and mood.
Ricky Leonard, a skilled composer, combines traditional Indonesian instruments, refined movements, and a rich sound design to create a multifaceted score. The composition seamlessly complements the film's ambiance, heightening the tension and suspense in a subtle yet effective manner.
The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast. Maudy Effrosina, portraying Mila, exudes a captivating blend of innocence and determination as she navigates complex emotions amidst supernatural forces. Actress Aulia Sarah's portrayal of Badarawuhi brings to life a terrifying seductress who embodies the essence of her character's totem—snakes. Diding Boneng presents a compelling character as Mbah Buyut, the shaman. Surrounding him is an aura of intrigue, as he undergoes a transformation akin to Clark Kent's transition into Superman when called upon to take action. Claresta Taufan Kusumarina portrays Ratih, a local girl who provides lodging for Mila and her friends. Claresta infuses her character with sympathy and emotional complexity. Mila's companions, played by Jourdy Pranata, Ardit Erwandha, and M. Iqbal Sulaiman, deliver eclectic performances that are both likable and vulnerable in the face of the supernatural elements.
Indonesia's “DANCING VILLAGE: THE CURSE BEGINS" is a captivating horror thriller that stands out for its enchanting and unsettling atmosphere. Skillfully crafted with beautiful visuals, the story blends magical elements with real-world locations, impressive performances, intricate production design, and an evocative score. Director Kimo Stamboel masterfully balances the chilling horror with a touch of innocence, creating a fairy tale-like quality that sets this film apart. The mythology presented in the film is unique and compelling, leaving viewers eager to explore the first installment, "KKN Di Desa Penari," and anticipate future installments or genre films from these talented filmmakers.

Black Cat gf + Golden idiot BF
Who actually enjoyed interviewing? The answer, of course, was no one at all. Still, there were bills to be paid and food was needed to live, and neither of those things would happen on an aspiring game developer's non-existent salary. For this reason alone ( and the fact that he didn’t want a roommate ever again), Adrian had marched his way into the fifth building of the day, a towering feat of fine architecture that was primarily a law firm, but rented out offices and even entire floors for freelancer types or small businesses. It was impressive, and intimidating, and made Adrian regret not renting a suit jacket or something to make himself look a bit more professional. Still, at least his shirt was clean. The pale blue button down was as fancy as he got ( or could really afford), and if he got the job he was after, was good enough for an office monkey.
While he wished that his time could be spent working on his game, his degree and experience made writing code and doing basic tasks in someone’s IT department an easy paycheck that would leave him with time to work on his project on the side with no one knowing the difference.
Seated in the sprawling lobby, people in nicer looking clothing than his rushed around, all busy and important and making him feel inferior just by being there. Still, he needed a real job, and thus was overcoming his awkward insecurities as best as he could while he waited to be called on. It was a bit of a wait, however, and the three cups of coffee he had were not as patient. Between security checks and being switched to a different floor, the java had made it’s way down to his bladder, and fidgeting in his seat didn’t make him look like a good candidate for a job. With a polite inquiry, Adrian shot up and made his way where he’d been directed in hopes to find a bathroom. He held it in as he made his way around the winding floor plan, going through door after door and finding nothing.
It had been minutes, and he was beginning to become worried he’d be summoned and not there, lost in the building or draining the lizard at his time, and became panicked. The panic did nothing but make the urge to pee stronger, and desperate times called nature. At a glance, the empty hallway was inviting enough to make Adrian wander swiftly to the women’s bathroom he saw at the end of a corridor. Why the women’s bathroom was right there but the men’s wasn’t, Adrian couldn’t fathom, but he was in no position to question it when the risk of having to flee the building with wet pants was this strong.
Be knocked first, and heard nothing, knocked again, announcing himself this time. There was still nothing, so Adrian pushed in the door and rushed to a stall. He could be in and out fast enough to not get caught, he decided, breathing a sigh of relief as he let go of what he’d held in. The deep was under a minute, and he quickly flushed and exited the stall. The plan was to wash his hands and make a break for it, but instead, he came face-to-face with the last thing he wanted to see. The dark eyes of a person who was actually supposed to be in this bathroom met him and locked on with a fierceness that made Adrian shiver and cower. He took a step back, his hands in the air in a gesture of surrender. “I-I-I know what this looks like…” He began, a helpless and embarrassed look on his face. “ I’m not a pervert, I swear to God, I just really really needed to take a leak and I asked the lady at the desk but I swear to God this building is worse than a laser tag maze and I couldn’t hold it and nobody was even in here so I thought I could just get in and do my business but I swear to God I wasn’t trying to do anything and I know what that sounds like and what this looks like but please don’t call the cops on me. I look tough but I have pretty lips and I’m really easy to push around and I wouldn’t do well in prison.”

Okay, so I can explain that one bird video. The silver java sparrow we see in the beginning which was moving its beak weirdly was heartbroken because it likes the white java sparrow (the one under the blanket) but the white java sparrow is married to the black java sparrow (the other one under the blanket) and the one jumping on top was trying to impress the sliver java sparrow. It's basically a complicated love square.
I see... I didn't realise java sparrows had such complex love lives.
